Finally done with finals and can focus on getting back to a consistent work out schedule. Was going to ease back into running after a week off but my body was telling me 8.5 miles yesterday so I rolled with it 🤷🏼♀️ I posted a story on my @rosemarygypsy of me running in Arizona with the temperature tagged and I got a lot of people asking how I run in the heat.
First thing I’ll say is to start as early as you can. When I started my run yesterday it was about 75 degrees but became 95 by the time I ended. Next thing I do is wear minimal clothing: wear no shirt/just a sports bra to let your body breathe so the heat won’t get trapped inside a tight tank top. Run somewhere scenic or that you enjoy so that it will distract you better from the heat. (I’m obsessed with running around Ramsey’s complex, it just makes me so happy knowing I’m around baseball.) In climates like the desert, throughout the run, it’s smart stop for short but frequent water breaks to stay hydrated and focused. Taking a short break in order to stay running longer is better than trying to push yourself and not being able to go as long. Lucky for me, The Cubs baseball complex has a water fountain, but other suggestions would be a park with a water fountain, or just leaving your water bottle shaded under your car in a neighborhood and running past it for a sip every so often.
